International + Intercultural + Interconnected = Study Abroad for the Future
Message from Nancy Cooke, BUTEX Chair
There is never a more important time for international education and study abroad professionals to come together and consider the future of our sector. Globalisation is changing the world at an increasingly fast pace, and the past year has brought new challenges for our sector, our students and the way that we work. BUTEX’s 5th Symposium, International + Intercultural + Interconnected = Study Abroad for the Future, gives us the opportunity to reflect of these changes, come together to consider the challenges, and share practice for the future.
Our theme draws inputs from three broad contexts:
International: global opportunities and international exposure are consistently seen as a positive for our students future employability, and we are in a unique position to deliver programmes to that can fulfil this remit.
Intercultural: the partnerships developed by our institutions and the networks our students build through a positive international education experience will be influential throughout our lives.
Interconnected: whilst our students are ever more demanding through the changing experiences available to them through the hyper-connected world, and our own ways of working and practice is forever enhanced and requires new learning ourselves.
The Symposium programme draws on the themes to generate new ideas and discussions, and our venue at MediaCityUK gives as the space to reflect.
I look forward to welcoming you to this year’s Symposium and the fruitful discussions and networking while we consider the future of study abroad.
